The OeAD has advised, supported and connected people and institutions in education, science, research and culture for 60 years with its future-oriented programmes. As an agency of the Republic of Austria the OeAD thus contributes to inclusive, equal and high-quality education. The OeAD’s fields of activity are in Austria, Europe and internationally in priority countries.
On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education (BMB) the “Cultural Education with Schools” department works at the interface between schools, the arts and culture. In this context participatory cultural education projects and activities with schools throughout Austria are conceived, accompanied, promoted, and given advisory and organisational support.
Work in this field is based on the central principle that children and young people should be encouraged to participate actively in artistic and cultural processes and foster their competences, taking the circumstances of their own lives as a point of departure. The projects are carried out in cooperation with artists and cultural professionals as well as with artistic and cultural institutions.

As one of Austria’s leading universities for music, drama, and dance, Bruckner University is nationally and internationally renowned for its characteristic interdisciplinarity in teaching and research. It sees its role as a training ground for performing, teaching, and academic research and as a significant agent in the development and communication of the arts. Central to this work is the education of young musicians, actors, dancers, and researchers from all parts of the world—almost half of the students and around 40% of the teaching staff have an international background—and fostering their development into individual artistic personalities.
Essential to the university is the diversity of the degree programmes and the excellent faculty-to-student ratio of 1:4 on average. The offering ranges from instrumental studies in classical concert subjects to singing, instrumental and vocal pedagogy, jazz and improvised music, composition, early music, elementary music pedagogy and music mediation as well as contemporary stage dance, dance pedagogy, movement research, and acting. Since 2019, Bruckner University has also been offering jointly managed doctoral programmes in artistic-scholarly and scholarly research, where early-stage researchers are trained in tandem to think and act in a research-oriented manner.
In addition, the university maintains cooperations with educational, research, and cultural institutions on regional, national, and international levels. This offers our students a wide range of opportunities for artistic performances, research, and teaching practice from the outset.
In this sense, Bruckner University becomes part of the ENO network as an open, innovative centre for the arts to actively contribute to ongoing discourses in developing arts and cultural education.
